CAMDEN, N.J. (Oct. 2, 2024) – The Rutgers University-Camden and Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer teams have a competitive rivalry in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, but in the last few meetings, nothing has been decided on the field.
For the fourth consecutive time the two teams played to a tie here Wednesday, and for the third straight time in the series the tie was a 0-0 deadlock.
The tie leaves Rutgers-Camden with a 5-4-3 record and a 1-0-1 mark in NJAC play. Rutgers-Newark is 6-4-2 overall and 0-0-2 in the conference.
The Scarlet Raptors lead the all-time series, 35-12-6.
The Scarlet Raiders had an excellent chance in the opening minute when a restart by sophomore forward Erick Cortes hit the upper right corner of the goal frame. The Scarlet Raiders held a 4-1 margin in shots and in corner kicks during the opening half.
Rutgers-Camden turned up the pressure in the second half with an 8-3 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks, but neither team could find the net in a game that featured 24 fouls and seven yellow cards, five of them on Newark.

Sean Boen made two saves to notch his sixth shutout of the season. Scarlet Raider senior keeper Pedro Flores had four saves, all in the second half.
Rutgers-Camden returns to NJAC action Saturday when it plays a 12 p.m. game at 21st-ranked Rowan University.
