WAYNE, N.J. (Oct. 22, 2024) – The William Paterson University volleyball team swept past Rutgers University-Camden, 3-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match here Tuesday night.
The Pioneers defeated the Scarlet Raptors, 25-18, 25-18 and 25-14, to raise their record to 13-9 overall and 4-1 in the NJAC.
Rutgers-Camden fell to 6-17 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
William Paterson rattled off seven straight points in the opening set, turning a 9-7 deficit into a 14-7 lead. Down, 24-15, Rutgers-Camden rattled off three straight points before William Paterson closed out the win on a Raptor attack error.
The Pioneers led all the way in the second set except for a 1-1 tie, maintaining a slim lead up until 22-18. They scored the last three points, capped by a pair of kills sandwiched around an ace by sophomore defensive specialist Leah Molnar.
In the third set, the Pioneers raced to an 11-1 lead before the Scarlet Raptors closed their deficit to 15-10, but the Pioneers scored the next three points on the way to a 25-14 victory.
Graduate student outside hitter/right side Hope Arce-Reed paced the Pioneers with 14 kills, while hitting .480. Sophomore outside hitter Cecilia Miller added 12 kills and a .304 hitting percentage. Miller also had 11 digs for a double-double.
Sophomore setter Abby Houpt collected 42 assists for the Pioneers.
Rutgers-Camden received 20 assists from junior setter
Avery Ang, boosting her career total to 981 between her two years at Rutgers-Camden and her freshman year at Medaille University.

Madison Snelgrove had a team-high nine digs, while sophomore setter
JoAnna Andrews added eight digs.

Sofia Granieri paced the Scarlet Raptors with seven kills, while senior middle hitter
Kaitlyn Parrish had six kills and two block assists.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Thursday with a 7 p.m. NJAC home game against Rowan University. Designated the "Dig Pink" match to promote breast cancer awareness, it will be the Scarlet Raptors' final home contest of the season.
