WAYNE, N.J. (October 23, 2024) – It has been quite a week for Rutgers University-Camden sophomore forward
Brianne Reeves.
Reeves, who collected five points on Saturday with her first two collegiate goals and an assist in a 3-1 win at New Jersey City University, scored a goal with 3:21 remaining here Wednesday night, lifting the Scarlet Raptors to a 1-1 tie at William Paterson University.
The tie gives the Scarlet Raptors a 7-7-3 overall record and a 2-4-1 mark in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, keeping them tied with William Paterson (5-6-6 overall, 1-2-4 in the NJAC) at seven points. The two teams currently are deadlocked for the sixth and final spot in the conference playoff race with two games remaining.
Rutgers-Camden out-shot William Paterson, 15-6, but the Pioneers' goal in the 30th minute held up almost to the end. Graduate student forward Julia Fiorito tallied her fourth goal of the season at 29:17, assisted by senior back Hailey Nelson.
The Scarlet Raptors held a 9-3 advantage in shots in the second half and that pressure finally paid off at 86:39, with Reeves converting a feed from senior midfielder
Alyson Petro. It was the third goal of the season for Reeves and the third assist for Petro, who tied Reeves and freshman
Asia Horne for the team assist lead.
Senior goalie
Michaela Graham finished with two saves for the Scarlet Raptors. Junior keeper Sarah Mantilla had seven saves for the Pioneers, including a pair of saves in the 88th minute against graduate student
Jazmin Brown and Horne.
Both teams finished with three corner kicks.
The Scarlet Raptors return to NJAC action Saturday with a 5 p.m. game at Kean University.
