CAMDEN, N.J. (Oct. 29, 2024) – Rutgers University-Camden junior setter
Avery Ang reached a career milestone here Tuesday as she passed the 1,000 assist plateau during the Scarlet Raptors' 3-0 loss to Stockton University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference volleyball match.
Stockton won by scores of 25-14, 25-13 and 25-11.
Rutgers-Camden fell to 6-19 overall and closed its NJAC schedule with a 2-6 conference mark. Stockton improved to 16-6 overall and 5-2 in the NJAC.
Ang, who started the night with 998 career assists, collected her milestone assist on a kill by freshman middle blocker
Gabby Gbolahan midway through the first set. She finished the night with eight assists, hiking her career total to 1,006. She has 554 assists in her two years at Rutgers-Camden after collecting 452 during her freshman season at Medaille University.
Ang's first assist came on the Raptors' first point of the match, a kill by Gbolahan. She reached her milestone when she assisted on another kill by Gbolahan as Rutgers-Camden cut Stockton's first-set lead to 15-10.
In the opening set, Stockton scored the first two points and built a 4-1 lead before Rutgers-Camden closed its deficit to 10-8. The Ospreys scored the next four points, however, on their way to a 25-14 win. Both Ang and sophomore setter
JoAnna Andrews had two assists in that set, while Gbolahan had two kills and sophomore libero
Mia Owens collected four digs.

Mia Francis on a kill to open the second set and the Scarlet Raptors took a 2-0 lead on a Stockton attack error. With the score tied at 4-4, Stockton ran off the next six points, taking the lead for good on a kill by senior middle hitter Teleyah Witherspoon.
The Ospreys scored the first 10 points of the third set on their way to the sweep.
In addition to Ang's eight assists, Andrews added seven assists for the Scarlet Raptors, who received six kills from Gbolahan. Owens had a team-high nine digs, while senior middle hitter
Kaitlyn Parrish had one solo blocks and two assisted blocks. Senior right side
Peyton McGregor added two block assists.
Stockton sophomore right side Nicole Palmer notched 12 kills and five aces, while hitting .524. Sophomore defensive specialist McKenna Ritchie collected 11 digs and junior setter Regan Mendick had 20 assists.
The Scarlet Raptors close out their season Nov. 10 at Elizabethtown College.
