MAHWAH, N.J. (Feb. 3, 2024) – The Ramapo College women's basketball team went on a 22-point run after Rutgers University-Camden scored the first field goal of the game and the Roadrunners went on to post a 69-40 victory here Saturday in New Jersey Athletic Conference action.
The win lifts Ramapo to 14-8 overall and 10-5 in the NJAC, while Rutgers-Camden falls to 1-21 and 1-14.
Although Rutgers-Camden leads the all-time series, 42-26, Ramapo has won the last six games between the teams.
Raptor freshman guard
Maniya Simon opened the scoring with a field goal 24 seconds into the game. The Raptors didn't score again until 1:45 into the second quarter on a jumper by freshman forward
A'yanna Morton. By that time, Ramapo had run off 22 straight points, including the last 18 of the first quarter. The Roadrunners took the lead for good, 4-2, on a layup by senior guard Jada Thompson, who finished with another huge double-double of 18 points and 17 rebounds.
Senior guard Jackie Ventricelli collected game-high totals of 19 points and four steals for the Roadrunners, while senior guard Reilly Sheeley grabbed 10 rebounds and added a game-high five assists.
Sophomore guard/forward
Taja Brown finished with 14 points and seven rebounds to lead the Scarlet Raptors, while Simon added nine points, six rebounds and a team-high three assists. Simon also tied for team-high honors with two steals, matching the total by senior guard
Jania Pitts.
Ramapo held a 51-32 advantage off the boards and shot 29-for-68 (42.6 percent) from the floor. Rutgers-Camden shot 16-for-54 (29.6).
The Scarlet Raptors return to NJAC action Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. game at Kean University.
