Walter Pierce...program record in the decathlon
Pierce sets program decathlon mark at TCNJ Invite and Multi
EWING, N.J. (April 12, 2024) – Sophomore
Walter Pierce became the first athlete to run the decathlon for the Rutgers University-Camden track team, setting a program standard with 4,104 points as he finished third of five in the event at the TCNJ Invite and Multi here Friday.
On the women's side, junior
Isabella Bordon finished 11th of 13 in the heptathlon (2,651 points) and freshman
Kaitlyn Novak placed 12th (1,322 points). Junior
Alyson Petro, who ran four events in the heptathlon on Thursday, didn't start Friday's last three events.
Pierce completed his day finishing first of four athletes in the 1,500-meter run (5:22.10), second of four in the 110-meter hurdles (17.82), and fourth of four in the discus (18.55 meters), the pole vault (2.15 meters) and the javelin (22.81 meters).
Bordon finished 11th of 12 in the long jump (4.21 meters), ninth of 12 in the javelin (19.27 meters) and fourth of 11 in the 800-meter run (2:37.24).
Novak fouled in the long jump but finished fifth in the javelin (23.30 meters) and 11th at 800 meters (3:37.07.
While those three athletes were competing Friday at TCNJ, senior
Alexis Marini was competing in the hammer throw at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University. In a field of Division I athletes, Marini finished 12th of 23 with a hammer throw of 49.26 meters.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action at the TCNJ Invite and Multi meet on Saturday.
