CAMDEN, N.J. (Sept. 20, 2024) – It had been over a decade since the Rutgers University-Camden men's team won its first two matches of the season, but the Scarlet Raptors broke that drought here Friday with a 7-0 victory over Penn State-Brandywine.
Rutgers-Camden raised its record to 2-0 for the first time since the start of the 2012-13 season.
The Scarlet Raptors earned the one point for winning doubles play as they swept all three matches against the Nittany Lions, who were opening their season with only five players. The Raptors won at first doubles, 6-1, behind grad student
Alex Loope and freshman
Alex Turcu. Rutgers-Camden won by the same 6-1 score with the second doubles team of freshman
Neal Shah and sophomore
Julian Pinder, while the Raptors' duo of sophomore
John Brady and junior
Christopher Abacan won by forfeit at third doubles when Brandywine couldn't field a team.
Loope won at first singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Shan posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory at second singles. Junior
Thanh Ngo earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory at third singles and Turcu won his fourth singles match, 6-0, 6-2. Brady swept his match at fifth singles by scores of 6-0, 6-0, and Pinder won by forfeit at sixth singles when Brandywine didn't have a player.
Rutgers-Camden hosts Division II Kutztown University Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
