CHESTERTOWN, MD (Sept. 21, 2024) – The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team traveled to Washington College for a tri-match here Saturday, but the Scarlet Raptors dropped both matches against the host team and Eastern Mennonite University.
Washington College swept the Raptors, 3-0 (25-23, 25-17 and 25-17) before Eastern Mennonite won in four sets, 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-22 and 25-13).
The results leave Rutgers-Camden with a 3-9 record.
The Scarlet Raptors host Ramapo College Tuesday at 7 p.m. as they start their New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule.
Washington 3, Rutgers-Camden 0
Washington College used 11 kills from Lindsay Saddic, 15 digs from Mary Miller, 23 assists from Allison McKechnie and six service aces by Alexis Stubbs as it raised its record to 7-4.
The Scarlet Raptors saw freshman
Gabby Gbolahan collected nine kills and senior
Kaitlyn Parrish drilled eight kills while hitting .412.
Junior
Avery Ang had 16 assists and seven digs, while sophomore
JoAnna Andrews added 10 assists and 12 digs for a double-double. Sophomore
Mia Owens collected 11 digs.
Eastern Mennonite 3, Rutgers-Camden 1
Eastern Mennonite improved to 5-5 as Kaitlyn Custis dished off 32 assists, helping Laney Cline notch 16 kills and Sophia Denby added 12 kills.
Rutgers-Camden received 13 kills from sophomore
Sofia Granieri, while freshman
Maria Theruviparambil added eight.
Ang and Andrews dished off 16 and 11 assists, respectively, while Ang added 13 digs for a double-double.
Owens led the team with 17 digs, Andrews added nine digs, and Gbolahan had a team-high four service aces.
