MAHWAH, N.J. (Sept. 28, 2024) – The Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer team spent much of the day under fire in its New Jersey Athletic Conference opener at Ramapo College here Saturday.
The Scarlet Raptors, however, fired the only shot that mattered as they came away with a 1-0 victory over the Roadrunners.
Rutgers-Camden improves to 5-4-2 with its fourth 1-0 victory of the season. The Scarlet Raptors are 1-0 in the NJAC after winning their fourth straight meeting against Ramapo.
The Roadrunners fall to 5-2-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
In the opening half, Ramapo held an 11-4 advantage in shots, forcing Raptor senior goalie
Sean Boen to make six saves. Boen finished the day with his season high of 12 saves, earning his fifth shutout of the season.
Rutgers-Camden was out-shot, 18-9, for the game and 12-2 in shots on goal, but only 4:37 into the second half, sophomore forward
Jason Angel scored his second goal of the season on a low shot to the left side of the net. He was assisted by junior midfielder
Brandon Valeri. After the Raptors scored 11 goals through their first 10 games by 11 different players, Angel became the first Scarlet Raptor to reach two goals.
Ramapo finished with a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Ramapo senior keeper Nikolai Matthews finished with one save.
Rutgers-Camden returns to NJAC play Wednesday at 7 p.m. when it hosts sister school Rutgers-Newark.
