ABINGTON, Penn. (Sept. 4, 2024) – The Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer team had plenty of possession and opportunities here Wednesday in its first road game of the season. It took a second-half penalty kick, however, for the Scarlet Raptors to edge Penn State-Abington, 1-0, in a non-conference game.

The victory was the third straight 1-0 win for the Raptors to open the season. Penn State-Abington fell to 0-3.

Rutgers-Camden out-shot the host team, 3-0, in the opening half and held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks at the break. It wasn't until midway through the second half, however, that the Raptors caught a break when a foul in the box resulted in a penalty kick. Midfielder
Tommy Monaghan converted the kick at 67:36 with a high shot to the left center of the net.

Rutgers-Camden finished with advantages of 7-5 in shots and 6-3 in corner kicks.

Raptor senior goalie
Sean Boen notched his third straight shutout and the 21st of his career, tying for third place on the program's all-time list. Boen made three saves, all in the second half.

Penn State junior Brendan Werner finished with two saves.

The Scarlet Raptors return to action Saturday with a 2 p.m. road game against New York University. The game will be played at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark.
