Downs' career high, All-Tournament honor, spark Raptor men in Amherst consolation game

AMHERST, Mass. (Nov. 15, 2025) – Senior forward Cameron Downs scored a career-high 37 points and earned a berth on the All-Tournament Team as the Rutgers  University-Camden men's basketball team defeated Maine Maritime Academy, 84-60, in the consolation game of the Ken Wright '52 Tournament here Saturday.
 
In the championship game, host Amherst College defeated Elms College, 96-52.
 
Downs scored 19 points in the opening half while leading the Scarlet Raptors to a 36-34 lead at the break. With 10:33 remaining in the game, Downs grabbed an offensive rebound and scored on a layup, giving him 30 points to pass his old career high of 29, accomplished against both Rutgers-Newark (Jan. 27, 2024) and Kean (Jan. 4, 2023).
 
Downs' big game moved his career total to 1,297 points. Currently eighth on the program's all-time scoring list, Downs is only three points from tying Cetshwayo Byrd (1990-94) for seventh place and five points from tying Isaac Destin (2015-18, 2019-20) for sixth place.
 
Trailing Maine Maritime (0-3) by five points, 24-19, midway through the first half, the Scarlet Raptors fought back to tie the game at 32-32 on a trey by Downs with 4:39 remaining before the break. Two minutes later, Downs' jumper gave the Raptors the lead, 34-32.
 
Maine Maritime managed to tie the game at 38-38 early in the second half on a layup by All-Tournament Team member Drew Hamilton, a freshman guard. The Scarlet Raptors, who improved to 3-1, took the lead for good at 39-38 on a free throw by sophomore guard Keion Elliott.
 
The final score was the Raptors' biggest lead of the game.

Joining Downs and Hamilton on the All-Tournament Team were Elms senior guard/forward Aden Goffe, Amherst junior guard Zane Adnan and senior guard/forward Chris Hammond of Amherst, who earned tournament MVP honors.
 
Downs finished his night shooting 13-for-27 from the floor, including 2-for-5 from three-point range. He went 9-for-12 from the foul line and added nine rebounds, one assist, one steal and one blocked shot.
 
Sophomore guard Ryan Senft scored 16 points and added seven rebounds and five assists for the Raptors. Elliott and freshman forward Makai Crawford both scored 10 points and collected three steals and two rebounds. Elliott added three assists, while Crawford had one assist and one blocked shot.
 
Hamilton scored 24 points to lead the Mariners. Junior forward Jack Banks scored 14 and freshman forward Karsten Walker added 11 for Maine Maritime.
 
Rutgers-Camden shot 30-for-61 from the floor (49.2 percent) and 18-for-28 (64.3) from the foul line, while holding a 31-30 edge off the boards and forcing the Mariners to make 20 turnovers. Maine Maritime shot 24-for-51 (47.1) from the floor and 6-for-7 (85.7) from the foul line.
 
Rutgers-Camden returns home on Tuesday night, when the Scarlet Raptors host Penn State-Abington at 6 p.m.
