Host Amherst drops Raptor men into consolation game at Wright tournament

AMHERST, Mass. (Nov. 14, 2025) – The Amherst College men's basketball team scored the first four points of the game and never trailed as it defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 68-53, on the opening night of the Ken Wright '52 Tournament here Friday.
 
In the other semifinal game, Elms College defeated Maine Maritime Academy, 80-72.
 
The consolation game will be played at 11 a.m. on Saturday between Rutgers-Camden and Maine Maritime. The host team, Amherst, will face Elms College in the championship game at 1 p.m.
 
Rutgers-Camden managed to cut the Mammoths' lead to 6-5 early in the opening half on a foul shot by sophomore guard Ryan Senft. Amherst scored the next seven points and led by as many as 16 points (35-19) before settling for a 35-22 halftime lead.
 
The Mammoths (1-0) led by as many as 20 points (63-43) in the second half.
 
 
Sophomore guard Elias Chin paced the winners with 14 points and added nine rebounds, while junior guard Marc Garraud scored 12 points. Both junior guard Zane Adnan and senior guard/forward Drew Martin netted nine points.
 
Senior guard/forward Chris Hammond's 13 rebounds helped Amherst control the boards, 47-34.
 
Senior forward Cameron Downs scored a game-high 17 points for the Scarlet Raptors, while sophomore guard Chase Ambrosius netted 15 and Senft added 10. Junior guard Noah Richmond added seven points.
 
Downs and Senft both collected nine rebounds for the Scarlet Raptors.
 
Amherst shot 21-for-61 (34.4) from the floor and 19-for-32 (59.4) from the foul line, while Rutgers-Camden went 13-for-46 (28.3) and 21-for-28 (75.0), respectively.
