CAMDEN, N.J. (Nov. 19, 2025) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's basketball team went on a 10-4 run to end the second quarter, breaking a 20-20 tie, and outscored Gwynedd Mercy University by 23 points in the second half as it defeated the Griffins, 76-47, in a non-conference game here Wednesday night.
Rutgers-Camden placed 10 players in the scoring column as it won its third straight game to hike its record above .500 for the first time this season. The Scarlet Raptors improve to 3-2, while the Griffins fall to 1-4.
The lead changed four times through the middle of the second quarter and the game was deadlocked at 20-20 when the Raptors took the lead for good on a jumper by junior guard/forward
Tamea El. That shot sparked a seven-point run the included a three-point play by sophomore guard
Hope Goodwine and a layup by junior guard
Tireya Wyatt. By halftime, Rutgers-Camden held a 30-24 lead and the closest Gwynedd Mercy came after that was when the Griffins scored the first basket of the second half to make it 30-26.
Leading, 44-37, late in the third quarter, Rutgers-Camden ran off the next 10 points, including four by freshman forward
Zairra Galloway and three apiece by Wyatt and junior guard
Gabriella Toledo. By the end of the third quarter, the Scarlet Raptors led, 58-39, and they increased their lead to as many as 30 points (74-44) late in the game.
Goodwine paced the Scarlet Raptors with 18 points, while adding six rebounds, six assists and two steals. Sophomore forward
Courtney Edmundo added 14 points, six boards, four assists, one steal and four more blocks, giving her 10 blocks in her last two games.
Wyatt scored 13 points and added five rebounds, while El notched 10 points and had a game-high seven rebounds.
The Scarlet Raptors' deep attack included the first collegiate points for freshman guards
Julissa Vicente and
Lilia Ortiz, who scored four and two points, respectively.
Sophomore forward Julianna DiFebbo led Gwynedd Mercy with 14 points, while freshman forward Caitlyn Majiros added 11.
Rutgers-Camden shot 25-for-54 (46.3) from the floor and 18-for-31 (58.1) from the foul line. Gwynedd Mercy went 17-for-51 (33.3) from the floor and 10-for-19 (52.6) from the line. Rutgers-Camden held a 38-37 edge off the boards.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Saturday when they host Colby College at 5 p.m.
