CAMDEN, N.J. (Nov. 22, 2025) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's basketball team made a valiant comeback bid against one of the better teams in the country here Saturday, but unfortunately for the Scarlet Raptors, they had too much to overcome.
Colby College of Waterville, Maine, raced to a 38-15 halftime lead before walking away with a 62-54 road victory in a non-conference game.
Colby, which received votes toward the Pre-Season Top 25 WBCA NCAA Division III Coaches' Poll, improved to 4-0. Rutgers-Camden fell to 3-3.
The Mules led all the way, scoring the first six points before the Scarlet Raptors climbed back to within two points, 9-7 and 11-9, late in the first quarter. Colby scored the next 12 points to make it a 23-9 game and after a jumper by Rutgers-Camden freshman forward
Zairra Galloway, the Mules went on a 13-point run for their biggest lead of the game, 36-11.
By halftime, Colby held a 38-15 lead before Rutgers-Camden came out strong in the third quarter. A 14-3 Raptor run cut the gap to 41-29 midway through the frame and the Scarlet Raptors cut the margin to 47-38 late in the quarter on a layup by sophomore guard
Hope Goodwine.
Colby recovered to take a 51-40 lead into the final quarter and led by as many as 13 points (55-42 and 61-48) in the final 10 minutes. The Scarlet Raptors twice cut the margin to seven points (55-48 on a layup by Goodwine and 61-54 on a foul shot by junior guard
Tamea El) before Colby wrapped up its eight-point win.
Junior guard Kate Olenik, a First Team All-NESCAC player last season, led the Mules with 22 points, while senior guard Lydia Mordarski added 10 points. Junior forward Amelia Hanscom had a game-high nine rebounds.
Goodwine scored 20 points for the Raptors, one shy of her career high. El and freshman guard
Tamyia Collier both notched nine points and sophomore forward
Courtney Edmundo added seven. El and Edmundo tied for team-high honors with eight rebounds apiece.
Colby shot 23-for-46 from the floor (50.0 percent) and 12-for-19 (63.2) from the foul line, led by Olenik's 5-for-6 performance from the line. Rutgers-Camden shot 22-for-63 (34.9) from the floor and 7-for-14 (50.0) from the foul line.
The Scarlet Raptors play their first New Jersey Athletic Conference game on Tuesday at 6 p.m. when they host Rutgers University-Newark.
