MONTCLAIR, N.J. (Dec. 13, 2025) – The nationally-ranked Montclair State University men's basketball team held Rutgers University-Camden scoreless for the first 4:01 of its game here Saturday while building a 9-0 lead, and the Red Hawks went on to defeat the Scarlet Raptors, 89-63, in New Jersey Athletic Conference action.
Montclair State, which is ranked ninth nationally in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, improved to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the NJAC, while Rutgers-Camden fell to 6-4 and 1-3.
The Red Hawks have won their last 10 games against the Scarlet Raptors and lead the all-time series, 65-11.
Rutgers-Camden sophomore guard
Keion Elliott broke the Red Hawks' opening run with a trey at the 15:59 mark and the Scarlet Raptors eventually managed to cut their deficit to five points, at 17-12 and 24-19. Elliott scored six of the Rutgers-Camden's first 12 points.
The Red Hawks led, 36-27, at halftime, with sophomore forward Myles Primas leading the attack with eight points. Freshman forward
Makai Crawford scored nine first-half points for Rutgers-Camden.
Montclair State opened up the game to start the second half, scoring the first 11 points, including a trio of treys, to pad its lead to 20 points, 47-27.
The Red Hawks finished with five players scoring in double figures, led by 15 points from senior forward Jacob Morales and 13 from senior forward Kunga Tsering.
Rutgers-Camden received 13 points from Crawford, 10 from sophomore guard
Ryan Senft and nine from freshman guard/forward
Gardy Etienne. Both Elliott and sophomore guard
Chase Ambrosius added eight points. Etienne and senior guard
Eric Benjamin had five rebounds apiece for the Raptors, while Elliott notched three steals and freshman forward
Mehki Carter had two blocked shots.
Montclair State shot 35-for-73 from the floor (47.9 percent) and 10-for13 (76.9) from the foul line, while Rutgers-Camden went 21-for-48 (43.8) and 16-for-20 (80.0), respectively.
The Scarlet Raptors held a 35-32 edge off the boards, but also had 33 turnovers, compared to 15 by the Red Hawks.
Rutgers-Camden is idle until Jan. 3, when the Scarlet Raptors host Rutgers University-Newark in a 12 p.m. NJAC game.
