CAMDEN, N.J. (Jan. 3, 2026) – Sophomore guard
Ryan Senft scored on a layup with one second remaining here Saturday to lift the Rutgers University-Camden men's basketball team over Rutgers University-Newark, 59-58, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game.
The victory lifts the Scarlet Raptors to 7-4 overall and 2-3 in NJAC play, while Rutgers-Newark falls to 3-9 and 0-5.
Newark leads the all-time series, 62-39.
Senft's game-winning shot came moments after Newark had taken the lead with 10 seconds remaining on a jumper by freshman guard Raheem Murray. Following a timeout by both teams, Rutgers-Camden inbounded the ball with 4.1 seconds remaining and sophomore guard
Keion Elliott fed Senft for the winning shot.
Rutgers-Camden held a 48-38 lead early in the second half before Newark chipped away, finally tying the game at 51-51 on a layup by sophomore center Will Ndio. The Scarlet Raptors regained a pair of four-point leads at 55-51 and 57-53 before Newark scored five straight points, capped by Murray's jumper, to take its final lead, setting the stage for Senft's game-winning shot.
Senior forward
Cameron Downs paced the Scarlet Raptors with 16 points, while senior guard
Eric Benjamin netted 12 and Senft added 10. Elliott had a game-high five assists for the Scarlet Raptors.
Downs added 11 rebounds to complete a double-double.
Murray and Ndio scored 15 points apiece for Rutgers-Newark, while junior guard Ayden Brown added 10.
Camden shot 23-for-54 (42.6 percent) from the field and held a 34-33 edge in rebounds, while Newark shot 26-for-55 (47.3).
Rutgers-Camden returns to NJAC action on Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. game at Stockton University.
