MAHWAH, N.J. (Dec. 6, 2025) – Ramapo College sophomore guard Jalen Thomas scored on a layup with 14 seconds remaining and the Rutgers University-Camden men's basketball team missed a potential game-winning jumper at the buzzer as the Roadrunners outlasted the Scarlet Raptors, 58-57, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Saturday afternoon.
The win lifted Ramapo to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in the NJAC as the Roadrunners denied the Scarlet Raptors their first win in Mahwah since Jan. 17, 2015. Rutgers-Camden, which was trying to improve to 2-0 in NJAC play for the first time in its history, fell to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Ramapo scored the first nine points of the game before Rutgers-Camden broke its drought 6:08 into the opening half on a layup by senior guard
Eric Benjamin. Late in the first half, the Raptors took their first lead of the game, 17-15, on a trey by Benjamin, but the Roadrunners scored 15 of the final 21 points of the frame to take a 30-23 advantage at the half.
With 4:53 remaining in the game, Rutgers-Camden cut its deficit to 53-51 on a layup by junior guard
Caleb Edwards. With 2:18 remaining, a trey by Benjamin tied the score at 54-54.
Ramapo regained the lead with 1:05 left when senior guard Elijah Barlow scored on a layup. Rutgers-Camden bounced back with 40 seconds remaining when sophomore guard
Ryan Senft hit a jumper, was fouled and tacked on a foul shot, giving the Raptors a 57-56 advantage.
A layup by Thomas gave the Roadrunners their final points and decided the game when the Raptors missed their shot at the buzzer.
Thomas finished with a game-high 14 points for the Roadrunners, while junior forward Nahum Lewis and graduate student guard Tyrell Murchison added 10 points apiece. Murchison also had a game-high seven steals.
Senior forward
Cameron Downs scored a team-high 13 points for Rutgers-Camden, while adding six rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots. Benjamin finished with 11 points and Senft had 10 points, three steals and a game-high eight rebounds.
Rutgers-Camden shot 23-for-54 from the floor (42.6 percent) and Ramapo shot 24-for-56 (42.9). The Scarlet Raptors held a 37-28 advantage off the boards, but also had nine more turnovers, 24-15.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Wednesday when it hosts The College of New Jersey in an 8 p.m. NJAC game.
