GALLOWAY, N.J. (Feb. 13, 2025) – The Stockton University men's basketball team scored the first 10 points of the game and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 67-57 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Thursday night.
Stockton improved to 17-6 overall and remained tied for the NJAC lead with Montclair State University, both with 12-4 conference records.
Rutgers-Camden fell to 8-14 overall and 3-13 in the NJAC.
The Ospreys lead the all-time series, 86-10.
Stockton placed eight players in the scoring column on the way to its 38-18 halftime lead. Junior guard EJ Matthews-Spratley led the Ospreys with nine first-half points.
The Scarlet Raptors outscored the Ospreys, 39-29, in the second half and whittled their deficit to 10 points on three occasions but couldn't get closer than the final score.
Matthews-Spratley finished with 19 points to lead the Ospreys, while junior forward Tayvon Gaither netted 11 and senior forward Christian Armstrong-Thomas added 10.
Junior forward
Cameron Downs finished with 20 points for the Scarlet Raptors, marking his eighth game this season with 20 or more points. Downs added a game-high nine rebounds.
Senior guard
Jordan Trusty-Smith collected 14 points for Rutgers-Camden.
Stockton shot 24-for-55 (43.6 percent) from the floor, while the Scarlet Raptors shot 1-for-50 (34.0). The Ospreys went 16-for-26 (61.5) from the foul line and the Scarlet Raptors went 21-for-29 (72.4).
Stockton held a 45-29 advantage off the boards.
Rutgers-Camden plays its final home game of the season on Saturday with a 3 p.m. NJAC contest against William Paterson University. The Scarlet Raptors will celebrate Senior Day and honor
Javon Gordon, Jordany Pierre, Andrew Sylvestre and Trusty-Smith.
