LEESBURG, Fla. (March 16, 2025) – The Rutgers  University-Camden softball team was supposed to play two more games on Sunday during its spring break trip to Florida.

The Scarlet Raptors only were able to play once, dropping a 10-5 decision against McDaniel College of Westminster, Maryland. A scheduled second game against SUNY-Cortland was halted in the second inning and eventually cancelled due to severe weather.

The Scarlet Raptors have a day off on Monday at the PFX Spring Games. They resume play on Tuesday in Leesburg, Florida when they face Worcester State University (Worcester, Massachusetts) at 9:45 a.m. and play the University of Scranton (Scranton, Pennsylvania) at 12 p.m.

McDaniel 10, Rutgers-Camden 5

The Green Terror (1-3-1) took the lead for good with a run in the top of the third inning and added three runs in the fourth and four in the fifth on the way to their first win of the season.

McDaniel collected 10 hits, including a big bases-clearing triple in the fifth inning by senior right fielder Olivia Dresser. Dresser also added a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and finished the day 1-for-1 with two walks, one run and four RBIs.

The Scarlet Raptors scored three times in the fifth inning on RBI singles by sophomore designated player Devyn Jordan and sophomore third baseman Alana Gannon. The final run was squeezed home by sophomore second baseman Madi Carr.

Rutgers-Camden added an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Lender and senior left fielder Emily Dubiago had two hits apiece for Rutgers-Camden, while sophomore right fielder Kali Baker walked twice and scored two runs.

Rutgers-Camden vs. Cortland

The Florida weather was the winner in this game as the two teams didn't complete a half hour of play in a scoreless game in the second inning. The game was halted and eventually called by lightning and rain.

Since the teams won't be able to meet again in Florida, the game was considered canceled.
