CAMDEN, N.J. (April 1, 2025) – The Rutgers University-Camden baseball team collected 11 hits and scored in all but two innings as it defeated Delaware Valley University, 9-7, in a non-conference game here Tuesday night.
The Scarlet Raptors raised their record to 16-5 with their fifth straight win, while the Aggies fell to 2-21 with their 11th straight loss.
Junior
Ryan Rumsey worked the first six innings, allowing three hits, one walk and three runs, only two earned. He struck out two and raised his record to 2-0 before giving way to a trio of Scarlet Raptor relievers.
Rutgers-Camden took the lead for good with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Graduate student designated hitter
Jack Murphy and sophomore right fielder
Brandon Petrick both singled with one out, then advanced on a wild pitch. Freshman catcher
Mason Blizzard, making his first collegiate start, walked to load the bases and senior left fielder
Giacomo Antonicello drove home Murphy with a ground out.
The Scarlet Raptors added four runs in the third inning on four hits and a walk. Murphy had a two-run single, Petrick singled home one run and Blizzard squeezed home the final run for his first collegiate RBI.
From the fourth through seventh innings, both teams scored single runs to give the Scarlet Raptors a 9-4 lead. Delaware Valley added a run in the eighth and two in the ninth to cut its final deficit to two runs.
Senior center fielder
Steven Shaffer went 3-for-4 with three runs scored to lead the Rutgers-Camden attack. Murphy was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs, while Petrick went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
Junior second baseman
Frankie Romond went 1-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs, giving him 98 hits for his Scarlet Raptor career. Senior first baseman
Diego Salazar also went 1-for-4 with one run as he hiked his career total to 95 hits.
The Scarlet Raptors resume their New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule on Thursday, beginning a home-and-home series with The College of New Jersey in a pair of 3:30 p.m. games. Thursday's game will be in Ewing, while Friday's game is in Camden.
