BRYN MAWR, Penn. (Sept. 16, 2025) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's soccer team spent most of the afternoon here Tuesday threatening the Bryn Mawr College goal, but for the longest time it appeared the Scarlet Raptors' efforts would follow their trend in recent games.
Rutgers-Camden finally broke the ice in the 82nd minute on a breakaway goal by sophomore
Ava Stowell and junior
Brianne Reeves added an insurance goal 1:08 later as the Scarlet Raptors posted their first win of the season, 2-0.
The victory lifted the Scarlet Raptors to 1-2-3, while the Owls fell to 5-2 with their second consecutive loss.
The Scarlet Raptors held commanding halftime leads of 10-1 in shots and 5-1 in corner kicks, forcing Bryn Mawr freshman goalie Lily Blackman to make eight saves in the opening 45 minutes. Rutgers-Camden freshman keeper
Giselle Lizardi had one first-half save.
Late in the game, however, the Raptors were in danger of suffering their fifth consecutive shutout before Stowell won the ball at midfield and took off on a breakaway, angling a shot past Blackman into the left panel at 81:34. It was only the second goal of the season for the Scarlet Raptors, breaking a scoreless string at 442:18. The Scarlet Raptors hadn't scored since a last-minute goal by
Victori Piteri in a 4-1 season-opening loss on August 29.
Rutgers-Camden didn't waste any time adding a second goal, with Reeves tacking on a goal at 82:42. Reeves finished the game with seven of the Scarlet Raptors' shots, all of them on goal.
The Scarlet Raptors finished with a 16-4. advantage in shots and a 6-2 margin in corner kicks, but one of the Owls' few chances came dangerously close to a goal with 23:25 remaining in a scoreless game. After a free kick from the right side, junior Adelynn Arroyo had a chance near the goal mouth in a crowded box, but Lizardi snuffed out the opportunity with a clutch save.
Lizardi finished with four saves to earn her first collegiate win and her fourth shutout, including a trio of 0-0 ties.
Blackman had 12 saves for the Owls.
