Ramapo women edge Raptors as teams open NJAC play

MAHWAH, N.J. (Sept. 27, 2025) – Freshman forward Julianna Capitanello scored her first career goal and it proved to be all that the Ramapo College women's soccer team needed as the Roadrunners defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 1-0, here Saturday night.

It was the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

Ramapo improves to 4-2-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while Rutgers-Camden falls to 1-4-4 and 0-1.

Capitanello scored the only goal Ramapo needed late in the opening half, hitting a shot into the lower right corner at 40:41.

Rutgers-Camden held an 11-7 advantage in shots and a 2-1 edge in corner kicks, but Ramapo
junior keeper Gabby Matias made eight saves to hand the Raptors their sixth shutout of the season. Sophomore forward Ava Stowell had five of the Raptors' 11 shots and four of their eight shots on goal.

Raptor freshman keeper Giselle Lizardi made one save.

The Scarlet Raptors play another NJAC game on Wednesday when they host Rutgers-Newark at 7 p.m.
