Raptors set two program marks among Gotham Cup performances
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Jan. 16, 2026) – The Rutgers University-Camden indoor track team opened the 2026 part of its winter schedule with record-setting times by junior
Sydnie Marshall and freshman
Talia Thomasson, along with several other outstanding performances at the NYC Gotham Cup here Friday.
Marshall broke her own program record in the 200-meter dash, blazing to a 27.14 clocking to finish 31st of 64. Her old program record was 27.20 set at the FastTrack National Invitational on Feb. 7, 2025.
Thomasson posted a 1:27.31 clocking at 500 meters to break the old mark of 1:28.11 set by Danielle Iannone on Feb. 23, 2014, at the Princeton Indoor Invitational. Thomasson finished 24th of 27 at 500 meters and also posted a 10.90 time in the 60-meter dash to finish 27th of 28.
Freshman
Jayden Deleon finished fourth of 23 in the high jump (1.99 meters), while freshman
Kamari Brown was fifth of 39 in the 60-meter dash (7.29) and 39th of 65 at 200 meters (23.89).
Junior
Jacob Dinerman finished fifth out of 43 athletes in the mile run (4:20.98) and freshman
Abdulbasit Shodolu was ninth out of 23 athletes in the high jump (1.89 meters). Junior
Dyheim Watson finished 22nd of 33 in the shot put (11.62 meters) and 15th of 35 in the weight throw (14.06 meters).
Freshman
Justin Harms placed 21st of 30 in the long jump (6.16 meters) and 22nd of 39 in the 60-meter dash (7.58).
Senior
Walter Pierce and freshman
Oluwatobi Popoola had strong performances in both the 200- and 400-meter dashes, setting a PR in both of their events. Pierce finished 23rd of 65 at 200 meters (23.08) and Popoola was 28th (23.16). In the 48-man field of the 400-meter dash, Popoola was 23rd (51.57) and Pierce was 28th (51.89).
The men's distance medley relay also finished third of 11 teams in a time of 10:39.65. The team included Dinerman, sophomores
Josiah Saint Elien and Kristopher Ewell and freshman
Jack Wessner.
The Rutgers-Camden women also received strong performances from sophomore
Deleon Benjamin, competing in her first meet of the winter season. She finished seventh of 17 in the 60-meter dash (8.58) and also placed 58th of 64 at 200 meters (29.33).
Junior
Kayla Franklin finished 12th of 40 in the shot put (11.08 meters) and 29th of 37 in the weight throw (10.11 meters).
The women's 4x400 finished 10th of 14 teams in a time of 4:30.16 with a team of Marshall, Benjamin, Thomasson and freshman
Sofia Tabet.
Rutgers-Camden will compete in the Collegeville Classic on Sunday at Ursinus College.
