GLASSBORO, N.J. (Jan. 28, 2026) – Junior forward Khalil Baker grabbed an offensive rebound and scored on a putback at the buzzer as the Rowan University men's basketball team stormed back to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 68-66, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Wednesday night.
The win lifted the Profs to 6-13 overall and evened their record at 6-6 in conference play. The loss snapped the Scarlet Raptors' three-game NJAC winning streak, dropping Rutgers-Camden to 10-8 overall and 5-7 in the conference.
The loss also snapped the Scarlet Raptors' two-game winning streak in its series against Rowan and padded the Profs' lead in the all-time series to 105-35.
The game was a story of two very different halves. After Rowan scored the first two points of the game, Rutgers-Camden came roaring back with nine points and continued to build on its lead. Four different players scored during the run, including a three-pointer by senior guard
Eric Benjamin that gave the Scarlet Raptors a 5-2 lead.
Rowan cut the gap to 9-5 before Rutgers-Camden rattled off another seven points, including a trey by senior forward
Cameron Downs. The Scarlet Raptors built a first-half lead as large as 19 points (30-11) before Rowan closed the gap to 38-30 at halftime. Downs and freshman forward
Makai Crawford led the Scarlet Raptors' first-half offense with 11 and nine points, respectively.
Rowan continued its comeback in the second half, finally tying the game at 57-57 on a layup by senior guard Brycen Williams with 7:04 remaining. A dunk by Downs helped the Scarlet Raptors regain the lead before two foul shots by Williams tied the game at 59-59. Another foul shot by Williams and a pair of free throws by freshman guard Khamai Orange put the Profs up, 62-59, before a layup by Downs made it a one-point game again.
Williams hit a jumper to give Rowan a 64-61 lead, but Benjamin tied the game on a trey with 3:37 remaining. Sophomore guard
Keion Elliott followed with a jumper to give the Scarlet Raptors their last lead of the night, 66-64, with 2:57 remaining.
Orange tied the game with a pair of foul shots with 2:39 remaining to set the stage for a wild finish that included eight missed shots and a missed free throw between the two teams before Baker's game-winning field goal.
Williams paced Rowan with a game-high 21 points, while Baker added 18 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Downs and Benjamin both scored 19 points for Rutgers-Camden, with Downs' output hiking his career total to 1,544 points. He is one point shy of tying Reggie Owens (1981-85) for second place on the program's career scoring list.
Freshman guard/forward
Gardy Etienne added 11 points for the Scarlet Raptors. Downs collected a game-high nine rebounds and four blocks, while the Raptors received a game-high six assists from sophomore guard
Ryan Senft. Elliott added five assists.
Rowan shot 23-for-57 (40.4 percent) from the floor and 20-for-24 (83.3) from the foul line, while holding a 37-28 advantage off the boards. Rutgers-Camden shot 28-for-54 (51.9) from the floor and 4-for-7 (57.1) from the line.
Rutgers-Camden returns to NJAC action on Saturday when it hosts the nation's fifth-ranked team, Montclair State University, in a 1 p.m. game.
