Raptors earn first win in doubleheader split with Haverford

CAMDEN, N.J. (Feb. 28, 2026) – Junior Austin Wokock earned his first win at Rutgers University-Camden and junior D.J. Juliano hurled four shutout innings to earn his first save of the season as the Scarlet Raptors won the second game of a doubleheader, 8-3, to earn a split against Haverford College here Saturday.
 
The Fords won the opener, 4-2. The split leaves Rutgers-Camden with a 1-2 record, while Haverford is 1-1 after its opening day split.
 
Rutgers-Camden returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Penn State-Abington. The game, originally scheduled for 6 p.m., has been changed to a 3:30 p.m. start due to the weather forecast for Tuesday night.

Haverford senior Sam Cohen (1-0) hurled five innings to pick up the win in the opener, allowing eight hits and two earned runs. He struck out eight and didn't walk any batters before turning the game over to relievers Adam Naegelen and Ethan Goldstein, who combined for four shutout innings. Goldstein picked up the save in 1.1 innings.
 
Scarlet Raptor sophomore Danny Torres Jr. (0-1) was the tough-luck losing pitcher, working six innings of six-hit ball and allowing three earned runs. He walked one and struck out nine.
 
After Rutgers-Camden scored a third-inning run on doubles by junior right fielder Matt McAleer and sophomore designated hitter Jake Slusarski, Haverford took the lead for good with a three-run fourth inning. Sophomore shortstop Jackson Sgro, last season's D3Baseball.com National Rookie of the Year, opened the frame with a double and scored one out later on a triple by sophomore third baseman Miles Prusek. After a walk, junior first baseman Sam Schaeffer delivered a two-run double.
 
Rutgers-Camden cut its deficit to 3-2 with a run in the fifth inning. Junior second baseman Austin Dubler reached on an infield single, stole second and scored on a single by Slusarski.
 
Schaeffer singled home the Fords' final run in the eighth inning.
 
Sgro and Schaeffer each went 3-for-4 for Haverford, with Schaeffer adding three RBIs. Prusek went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
 
Slusarski went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and three stolen bases for Rutgers-Camden, while junior catcher Julian Gonzalez went 2-for-3.

Wokock (1-0), a first-year Scarlet Raptor after pitching at Rowan College of South Jersey-Cumberland, worked five innings of four-hit ball, allowing three runs (two earned) and three walks. He struck out 10. Protecting a 4-3 lead, Juliano finished the game with four shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out seven for the save.
 
After Haverford scored an unearned run in the first inning, Rutgers-Camden tied the game in the second. Torres Jr., serving as the designated hitter and cleanup batter in the nightcap, was hit by a pitch, advanced on a pair of wild pitches and scored on a ground out by sophomore first baseman Ryan Joseph.
 
The Scarlet Raptors scored twice in the third inning on a pair of hits, including an RBI infield single by Torres Jr., and an RBI fielder's choice by Joseph.
 
Haverford chipped away with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before Rutgers-Camden took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Dubler singled, stole second and moved to third on a fly out by Slusarski. Joseph plated him with a two-out double.
 
Rutgers-Camden added a pair of unearned runs in the sixth inning and scored two more times in the eighth, aided by an RBI triple by Slusarski and a run-scoring wild pitch.
 
Dubler went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs scored, while Joseph went 1-for-4 with three RBIs.
