KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 17, 2026) – The Rutgers University-Camden softball team had an unexpected two-day layoff on its trip to The Spring Games in Florida. After watching a pair of games get rained out on Sunday and enjoying a scheduled day off on Monday, the Scarlet Raptors returned to action here Tuesday with a pair of games.
The Scarlet Raptors split their two contests at The Spring Games, falling to Bates College, 3-0, before topping Keuka College, 7-3.
Rutgers-Camden (4-4) returns to action on Wednesday in Kissimmee for its final two games of the spring break trip. The Scarlet Raptors play SUNY-Cortland (Cortland, New York) at 10 a.m. and Alverno College (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) at 12:15 p.m.
Bates 3, Rutgers-Camden 0
Bates College (Lewiston, Maine) blanked the Scarlet Raptors on two hits as it evened its record at 2-2.
The Bobcats scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning off Raptor junior pitcher
Anna Milillo on two hits and an error. That was the only run until the bottom of the fifth inning, when the Bobcats strung together three straight hits after Milillo retired the leadoff batter. Junior right fielder Maya Lee opened the rally with a double, which was followed by RBI singles from senior shortstop Ella Maher and junior center fielder Zariya Anderson.
Rutgers-Camden, meanwhile, was no-hit through the first four innings by Bates sophomore Haley Alden, who allowed only two walks (both to junior designated player
Alana Gannon) and a hit batsman (freshman first baseman
Kaede Walsh) in that span.
Junior left fielder
Victoria Connelly broke up the no-hitter with a leadoff double in the fifth inning and one out later she was sacrificed to third base by freshman right fielder
Sade Whittingham. Senior Delaney Rankin relieved Alden, and after hitting sophomore catcher
Zoie Mantzell with a pitch, she worked out of the inning with a strikeout.
Milillo (0-3) worked 4.1 innings, allowing seven hits and three runs (two earned). She struck out one and didn't walk any batters. Freshman
Natalie D'Angelo worked the final 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out one.
Alden (1-0) picked up the win in 4.2 shutout innings, walking two, striking out two and allowing only one hit. Rankin earned her first save, working 2.1 shutout innings and allowing one hit, a leadoff single by Gannon in the seventh inning. She struck out four and didn't walk a batter.
Lee went 3-for-3 with two runs scored to lead the eight-hit Bates attack.
Rutgers-Camden 7, Keuka 3
The Scarlet Raptors rallied from an early two-run deficit to defeat Keuka (Keuka Park, New York), which fell to 1-4.
The Wolves scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, set up with a one-out hit batsman, a walk and a wild pitch. Freshman pitcher Julia Spencer singled home the first run. The second run scored on a ground out by senior first baseman Grace Eagen.
Rutgers-Camden took the lead with three unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning, aided by three walks, a pair of throwing errors and a pair of singles. The first run scored on a throwing error after a bunt single by freshman left fielder
Sade Whittingham for her first collegiate hit. Mantzell drove home the second run on a fielder's choice. Mantzell stole second and scored the third run on a single by junior second baseman
Gianna Bauer.
Rutgers-Camden added to its lead in the third inning following a leadoff double by Gannon and a single by sophomore third baseman
Madi Carr. Walsh delivered the run with a sacrifice fly.
Keuka scored a run in the fifth inning on a hit batsman and three singles, but the Scarlet Raptors countered that run and added two more in the bottom of the frame. Junior center fielder
Kali Baker drew a leadoff walk and raced all the way to third when Gannon's sacrifice bunt was thrown away. Carr singled home Baker and advanced to second base on an error in left field. Walsh and Connelly followed with RBI infield singles.
Junior
Sammie Friel hurled a five-hitter to raise her record to 2-1. She allowed two walks and three earned runs, while striking out nine.
Spencer (0-2) took the loss, working two innings of two-hit ball and allowing three walks. All three runs off of her were unearned.
Rutgers-Camden finished with seven hits off Spencer and freshman reliever Lizzie Kocsis. Carr led the way with a 2-for-4 game, adding one run and one RBI. Walsh went 1-for-2 with one run and two RBIs.
Gannon and Connelly had one hit in each game.
