MEDFORD, N.J. (May 9, 2026) – One of the finest seasons in the history of the Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team was capped here Saturday when the Scarlet Raptors recorded the first ECAC Championship in program history.
In a title match held indoors at the Arrowhead Tennis Club due to weather concerns, the Scarlet Raptors defeated Baruch College, 4-2, to win the ECAC title. They closed the season with a 13-5 record, tying for the most wins in program history with the 13-5 team in 2021-22 and the 13-3 program way back in 1987.
Rutgers-Camden earned the lone point for doubles by taking two of the three doubles matches to open the championship competition. Although the Scarlet Raptors lost at first doubles, 6-1, behind the team of sophomores
Jilliane Jaugan and
Grace Albert, they won at second doubles, 7-6 (7-3), with the team of freshmen
Gabby Albert and
Bella Albert. Rutgers-Camden won third doubles behind senior co-captain
Katie Moore and freshman
Leila O'Brien, 6-3.
At first singles,
Gabby Albert dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Baruch's top player, Aishika Yadav, who finished her stellar junior season with a 17-0 singles record. At second singles, Jaugan won a hard-fought 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 decision.
Grace Albert lost at third singles, 6-2, 6-0, but
Bella Albert won at the fourth flight, 6-4, 6-0, and Moore wrapped up the championship at fifth singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. The sixth singles match, with O'Brien, was unfinished due to the clinching match at the fifth flight.
Moore's two wins lifted her career total to 76 as she finished only two victories shy of all-time leader Amanda Hickman (2012-16). Moore finished as the program's all-time leader in doubles victories (39) and was second in singles wins (37).
Bella Albert, meanwhile, ended up with a 17-3 overall singles record (15-2 in dual matches and 2-1 at the King's College Invitational in September), mainly at fourth singles. Her 17 singles victories set a new single-season program record, breaking the mark of 16 by Hickman during the 2012-13 campaign. She also set an overall season record with 29 wins, breaking the mark of 27 shared by Hickman (2012-13) and Sarah Ahrens (2021-22).
