CAMDEN, N.J. – The Rutgers-Camden women's volleyball team started off its 2026 campaign with a 3-1 home win over Widener on Thursday night.
Set scores were 25-16, 22-25, 25-13, and 25-15 in favor of RUC.
A total team effort paced the Scarlet Raptors as they hit .242 (45-15-124) on the night, including a .379 clip (13-2-29) in the third set.
Freshman
Gabby Gbolahan and sophomore
Asha Pensa Johnson had a team-high ten kills each, while
Sofia Granieri had nine.
Mia Owens,
Madison Snelgrove and
Lora Kunicki each had three aces.
Defensively,
Nissi Wadieh had five blocks, with Granieri and Gbolahan each having two.
JoAnna Andrews added 16 assists, with
Cassie Guim getting 15.
Owens had a team-best 22 digs, with Snelgrove getting 15 and Andrews 11.
In the first set, with the score tied at 7-all, Rutgers-Camden went on a 14-3 scoring run to go up 21-10 on a kill by Granieri. In set two, the Scarlet Raptors nearly came back to win the set, rallying from a ten-point deficit to get within two at 24-22.
In the third set, Rutgers-Camden went up 6-0 and led the rest of the way, getting as much as a 14-point lead at 24-13, while in set four, the Scarlet Raptors led as much as a 12-point lead.
Rutgers-Camden will now head to DeSales for a weekend-long quad match with Penn College, Immaculata, and host DeSales.
