No. 23 Richard Stockton tops Scarlet Raptors

Box Score GALLOWAY, N.J. – Senior guard Rich Suhr (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) scored 14 points in the opening half and junior guard James Williams (Englewood, NJ/Englewood) added all 12 of his points as the nationally-ranked Richard Stockton College men's basketball team built a 14-point lead and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 76-61, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Wednesday night.

The Ospreys, who broke into the D3hoops.com rankings this week at No. 23, improves to 11-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference with their sixth straight victory.

The Scarlet Raptors fall to 2-10 overall and 1-5 in conference play with their fourth straight loss.

Stockton has won 11 straight games and 57 of the last 58 contests against Rutgers-Camden to lead the all-time series, 65-8.

After Rutgers-Camden scored the opening field goal of the night, Richard Stockton ran off 12 straight points to take the lead for good. The Scarlet Raptors fought back to within four points (22-18) before the Ospreys established a 45-31 lead at the break.

Suhr finished with 16 points, while junior forward Josh Blamon (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) added 13 points. Senior forward Nnamdi Usuwa (Avenel, NJ/Colonia) and Williams each added 12 points, with Usuwa chipping in a team-high seven rebounds.

Senior guard Kevin Johnson (Paulsboro, NJ/Paulsboro) added six points, in addition to game-high totals of eight assists and four steals for the Ospreys.

Rutgers-Camden junior guard/forward Teon Russell (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson) finished with his sixth double-double of the season and the 17th of his career, collecting a game-high 25 points and adding 10 rebounds. His scoring output was four shy of his career high, set Jan. 23, 2013 against Rowan, and hiked him over 600 career points to 607.

Junior guard/forward Alex Smart (Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek) added 11 points for the Scarlet Raptors, while senior forward Shaliek Johnson (Camden, NJ/Pennsauken Tech) added seven points and seven rebounds.

Stockton shot 47.7 percent (31-for-65) from the floor, including a blistering 11-for-21 (52.4) from three-point range. Rutgers-Camden shot 39.0 percent (23-for-59) from the floor, but only 3-for-12 (25.0) from three-point range.

The Raptors held a 40-37 edge off the boards and both teams had 22 turnovers.

Both teams return to NJAC action with 3 p.m. games Saturday. Rutgers-Camden hosts Kean University, while Richard Stockton plays at Montclair State University.
