CLERMONT, Fla. – The Rutgers University-Camden softball team ended its semester break trip to the Dot Richardson Spring Games with an 8-0 loss to Elmhurst College here Saturday afternoon.

The Scarlet Raptors, who defeated Oberlin College, 7-4, earlier in the day, close their spring break trip with a 5-4-1 record down south. They are 7-4-1 overall.

The Blue Jays, based in Elmhurst, Illinois, improve to 3-4.

Elmhurst used the three-hit shutout pitching of junior Tiffany Potthast (Highland, IL/Highland) to shut down the Scarlet Raptors, snapping Rutgers-Camden's four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1). Potthast allowed only three singles, walked three and didn't strike out a batter. The only Raptor to reach base safely more than once was losing pitcher Brittany Scott (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional), who drew two walks.

Rutgers-Camden received singles from senior catcher Tabby Dick (Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester City) in the first, sophomore rightfielder Steph Carfagno (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) in the third and junior shortstop Krystine Rice (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) in the sixth.

Scott allowed 10 hits and eight runs, five of them earned. She walked three and struck out one in falling to 6-3. The Scarlet Raptors committed a season-high five errors behind her.

Elmhurst collected three runs in both the second and third innings before tacking on two in the sixth to decide the game by the eight-run rule.

Sophomore catcher Brianna Thompson (Joliet, IL/Joliet West) paced the Blue Jays' offense, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs to support her battery mate. Potthast and senior rightfielder Clare Bukowski (Berwyn, IL/Morton) both had two hits and three runs scored for Elmhurst.

The Scarlet Raptors open their New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule on Saturday, March 29, hosting New Jersey City University in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
