Emma Geyer (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) hit a 30-yard shot into the net with only 8:04 remaining in regulation, lifting the Lakers to a 2-1 victory over the Scarlet Raptors in the consolation game of the Rutland Herald Invitational here Sunday.
The Lakers evened their record at 1-1 while the Scarlet Raptors fell to 0-2.
With time winding down, Geyer's shot eluded Raptor sophmore keeper
Angela Martorano (Gloucester Township, NJ/Triton Regional) for the deciding goal. It was the only goal Martorano allowed in 67:40 of playing time. Earlier in the second half, she deflected a chip shot from 10 yards out following a corner kick, leaping to punch the ball over the net and keep the score tied. She finished with nine saves in an outstanding effort, earning a berth on the All-Tournament Team.
Oswego State scored an early goal at 7:21, following a corner kick that dropped to freshman defender
Nicolette Larosa (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa). She put a shot on net, but it was deflected out by Rutgers-Camden junior defender
Stephanie Rodriguez (Kearny, NJ/Kearny). The ball bounced off a few players before landing on the foot of senior forward
Tia Segretto (Memphis, NY/Jordan Elbridge), who finished off the shot for a 1-0 lead.
The Lakers held a 15-4 advantage in shots in the opening half. Raptor freshman goalie
Katie Gurba (Westampton, NJ/Holy Cross) made two saves and allowed one goal in the opening half, while Martorano had two of her nine saves in the opening half. Oswego State junior keeper
Alyssa Glasshagel (Coram, NY/Newfield) made all three of her saves in the opening half.
Only 2:04 into the second half, a Laker defensive miscue helped the Scarlet Raptors notch the tying goal. Oswego State played the ball back to Glasshagel, who couldn't get off a clean clear. The ball fell to sophomore midfielder
Kaitlyn Zuzulock (National Park, NJ/Gateway Regional) near the corner of the 18 and she chipped it over the keeper and defense to tie the game at 1-1. It was Zuzulock's first career goal.
Oswego State outshot Rutgers-Camden, 29-8, for the game and held n 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. Brannigan and Gurba combined for 11 saves.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action next weekend in the Drew Fall Festival at Drew University in Madison. The Scarlet Raptors, who won the event last season, face Elms College in their opening game Saturday at 2 p.m.
