Box Score 2 CAMDEN, N.J. – While Wednesday's cold, rainy weather reminded everyone that spring has arrived only on the calendar, the Rutgers University-Camden softball team reminded everyone of the famous Yogi Berra line "It ain't over 'til it's over."
Rutgers-Camden scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie Penn State-Abington, 5-5, in the nightcap of a doubleheader before the game was called due to intermittent rain, which caused the field conditions to deteriorate.
The tie extended the Scarlet Raptors' unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-1) after they won the opener, 8-0, in five innings. Rutgers-Camden stands at 7-3-1, while Penn State-Abington is 2-1-1.
The Raptors open their New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Rutgers-Newark.

Junior
Brittany Scott (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional) tossed a one-hit shutout, walking one and striking out five to raise her record to 5-2. She allowed only a leadoff single through the left side of the infield by freshman infielder
Whitney DeLagol (Warminster, PA/William Tennent). The Scarlet Raptor bats, meanwhile, pounded out 13 hits, including three by junior center fielder
Lindsay Day (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest), who had a pair of doubles and a solo home run in the fourth inning. It was her second homer of the season.
After scoring a pair of unearned runs in the first inning, the Raptors put the game away with a five-run third inning, aided by six hits and an error. Day started the frame with a hustle double on a pop up that fell in short center field. She scored on a single by junior third baseman
Katie Larson (Delran, NJ/Delran), who was named both the New Jersey Athletic Conference and the ECAC Div. III Metro Player of the Week in the last two days. Senior shortstop
Krystine Rice (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) doubled to left-center and freshman catcher
Samantha Sandridge (Friendswood, TX/Friendswood) delivered Larson with a sacrifice fly to right. Freshman first baseman
Lauren Simmons (Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights) ripped a RBI ground-rule double to right, plating Rice, and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Sophomore right fielder
Jalene Garcia (Vineland, NJ/Vineland) added an infield single, stole second and scored when a bunt single by freshman second baseman
Taylor Nichols (Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights) was thrown away.
In addition to a 3-for-3 game with three runs scored for Day, Garcia and Larson both had two hits.
Rutgers-Camden 5, Penn State-Abington 5 (7 innings)

Mackenzie Mason (Carneys Point, NJ/Penns Grove) opened the frame with a double against Nittany Lion sophomore hurler
Emily Wrenn (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham), who had allowed only two unearned runs up to that point. Senior left fielder
Devon Welsh (Maple Shade, NJ/Audubon) had a bunt single and stole second before Garcia beat out an infield hit to shortstop, driving home Mason. One out later, Garcia stole second and Welsh scored on a throwing error by the catcher. With two outs, Day singled through the left side of the infield to tie the game.
Day and Welsh each had two hits in the contest, while Welsh and Garcia both scored twice. Rice, Nichols and Larson each had one hit as they extended their hitting streaks to six, the longest on the team this season.
