Rutgers-Camden basketball teams shooting to aid charity

CAMDEN, N.J. (Jan. 26, 2016) – When the Rutgers University-Camden men's and women's basketball teams host Kean University on Saturday, January 30, the Scarlet Raptors will be playing for something more important than a place in the New Jersey Athletic Conference standings.

Both Rutgers-Camden teams will be helping to raise funds for the Go4theGoal Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Cherry Hill. Go4theGoal is dedicated to curing pediatric cancer and improving the lives of youngsters battling that disease.

Since its founding in 2006, the Go4theGoal Foundation has awarded over $1,000,000 in research grants to prestigious institutions, including the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, the Seattle Children's Research Institute and others. The organization also has helped to ease financial burdens for families affected by pediatric cancer, has funded special wishes for patients and has supported numerous ventures such as palliative care rooms, bereavement programs, survivorship celebrations and parent/patient programs.

The organization's national programs, which have drawn support from elementary schools through colleges and businesses, include a National Pediatric Cancer Awareness Day, a "Spring Into Action 4 A Cure" program and a "Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer" initiative. Thousands of athletes and coaches, from all levels and sports, have worn the program's gold shoelaces during these campaigns, an initiative that the Rutgers-Camden basketball programs will join on Saturday. Members of the team are donating $5 apiece to purchase the gold shoelaces.

The Rutgers-Camden women's game will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday, followed by the men's contest at 3 p.m. Fans in attendance are encouraged to make cash donations to the Go4theGoal program.
