CAMDEN, N.J. (Oct. 22, 2016) – The Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer team had a chance to lock up a New Jersey Athletic Conference playoff berth and all but secure a first-round playoff home game entering Saturday's contest against William Paterson University.

After suffering a 1-0 defeat against the Pioneers, however, the Scarlet Raptors' post-season picture was significantly blurred as the NJAC comes down to its final regular-season games on Wednesday.

The loss dropped the Scarlet Raptors to 8-5-4 overall and 4-3-1 in the conference, leaving them with 13 points as they travel to Stockton University for a 7 p.m. NJAC contest Wednesday. Stockton, which owns 11 NJAC points (3-3-2), would pass the Scarlet Raptors in the standings with a win.

Coupled with the results of another late-afternoon NJAC game, in which The College of New Jersey posted a 3-2 win at Kean University, the Scarlet Raptors still didn't clinch a playoff berth, with seven teams remaining in the playoff hunt entering the final day of the season.

The victory not only lifted the Pioneers to 8-7-2 overall and 3-5 in the NJAC, but it was Paterson's first win over Rutgers-Camden since 2006. The Scarlet Raptors had won the last seven games and gone 8-0-2 in the previous 10 against the Pioneers. Rutgers-Camden's lead in the all-time series was sliced to 16-13-7.

The game also served as Senior Day for the Scarlet Raptors, who recognized a pair of senior backs who have been an integral part of the program: two of the team's three captains in Dan Gilbert (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and Mike Naylor (Pine Hill, NJ/Overbrook Regional).

On a wet, windy day, the Pioneers scored the game's only goal just 8:28 into the contest after freshman midfielder Dromo Quaye (North Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) played a ball from the right corner to the top of the box. Junior midfielder JP Gonzales (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County Tech) finished with a shot inside the right post for his fourth goal of the season.

Although the Scarlet Raptors had the territorial advantage in the second half as they pushed to score the tying goal, they couldn't crack through the Paterson defense. The Pioneers actually out-shot the Scarlet Raptors in both halves, finishing with a 23-15 advantage. Rutgers-Camden held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Paterson freshman keeper Kyle Quigley (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Regional) made three saves to notch his sixth shutout of the season. Rutgers-Camden sophomore goalie James Brett (Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra) finished with six saves.
