WILKES-BARRE, Penn. (April 24, 2016) – After an early-season schedule filled with postponements and cancelations, the busy part of the semester has finally hit for the Rutgers University-Camden men's tennis team.
The Scarlet Raptors played their third match in five days here Sunday, part of a five-matches-in-eight-days run which continues Monday and Wednesday. Rutgers-Camden ran into a strong team from Wilkes University as it lost to the Colonels, 9-0, in a non-conference match.
Rutgers-Camden falls to 4-6 with its second 9-0 loss in as many days. Wilkes improves to 19-1 with its eighth straight win.
Rutgers-Camden's closest singles match came from junior
Anthony Gendin (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) at the first singles flight as he dropped a 6-3, 6-5 decision against the Colonels' Brian Murray. Gendin and junior
Ryan Christopher (Washington Township, NJ/Washington Township) also teamed up at second doubles for a close match before losing, 8-6.
Senior
Drew Delengowski (West Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) dropped a 6-0, 6-3 decision at second singles, Christopher lost, 6-0, 6-1, at third singles and senior
Onkar Singh (Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek) was defeated at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-0. At fifth singles, junior
Jason Lin (Shirley, NY/William Floyd) lost a 6-1, 6-2 battle, while sophomore
Jake Collette-Nippins (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) dropped a 6-1, 6-0 match at sixth singles.
Wilkes also won first singles, 8-1, over Lin and Delengowski and third singles, 8-1, over Singh and Collette-Nippins.
The Scarlet Raptors play a 3:30 p.m. match at the College of Staten Island Monday before hosting Rutgers-Newark Wednesday in a key Great Northeast Athletic Conference battle. The winner of that match will qualify for the GNAC semifinals as the second team from the South Division, behind Ramapo College. The GNAC semifinals will be held Saturday.
