MAHWAH, N.J. (April 23, 2016) – For the past three seasons, the Ramapo College men's tennis team has won the Great Northeast Athletic Conference championship.
If Saturday's match was any indication, the Roadrunners might well be the favorite to defend their title again.
Ramapo College swept past Rutgers-Camden, 9-0, here Saturday to clinch first place in the GNAC South Division heading into the conference semifinals April 30. The Roadrunners are 12-2 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the GNJAC South.
Rutgers-Camden, meanwhile, stands at 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the GNAC. The Scarlet Raptors, competing in only their second season of GNAC action, will host Rutgers-Newark Wednesday in a 4:30 p.m. Senior Day match. The winner of that match will be the other playoff semifinalist from the GNAC South Division.
Against Ramapo, the Raptors were swept in all six singles matches in two sets, with junior
Anthony Gendin (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) losing at first singles (6-0, 6-3), senior
Drew Delengowski (West Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) falling 6-0, 6-0 at second singles, junior
Ryan Christopher (Washington Township, NJ/Washington Township) dropping a 6-1, 6-0 decision at third singles, senior
Onkar Singh (Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek) losing at fourth singles (6-4, 6-0), junior
Jason Lin (Shirley, NY/William Floyd) dropping a close 6-4, 6-3 decision at fifth singles and sophomore
Jake Collette-Nippins (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) falling at sixth singles (6-2, 6-3).
Lin and Delengowski lost their first doubles match, 8-2, while Gendin and Christopher lost 8-1 at second doubles. Singh and Collette-Nippins dropped an 8-2 decision at third doubles.
Before entertaining Rutgers-Newark Wednesday, the Scarlet Raptors will play a pair of road matches. Rutgers-Camden travels to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on Sunday to face Wilkes University in a 10:30 a.m. non-conference match. On Monday, the Raptors play a 3:30 p.m. match at the College of Staten Island.
