STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (April 25, 2016) – One year ago, the Rutgers University-Camden men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision against the College of Staten Island.
The Scarlet Raptors turned that result around here Monday, posting a 7-2 victory over the Dolphins. The victory raises Rutgers-Camden's record to 5-6, three more victories than the 2015 team posted.
The Scarlet Raptors posted singles wins at the first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth spots, while also capturing the first and third doubles competitions.
At first singles, junior
Anthony Gendin (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) captured a 6-2, 6-1 victory, while senior
Drew Delengowski (West Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) posted a 6-1, 4-6, 10-5 win at second singles. Junior
Ryan Christopher (Washington Township, NJ/Washington Township) dropped a 6-4, 6-0 decision at third singles, but the Raptors won the last three singles behind senior
Onkar Singh (Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek), junior
Jason Lin (Shirley, NY/William Floyd) and sophomore
Jake Collette-Nippins (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling), respectively. Singh posted a 6-4, 6-0 victory to even his singles record at 4-4, while Lin won, 6-0, 6-1, as he raised his singles record to 6-5. Collette-Nippins evened his sixth singles mark at 4-4 with a 6-3, 6-1 win.
In doubles, Lin and Delengowski posted an 8-8 (7-4) win at first doubles and Collette-Nippins teamed with Singh for an 8-4 victory in the third spot. The Raptors' Christopher and Gendin lost a tight 9-7 decision at second doubles.
The Scarlet Raptors host Rutgers-Newark Wednesday in a key Great Northeast Athletic Conference battle. The winner of that match will qualify for the GNAC semifinals as the second team from the South Division, behind Ramapo College. The GNAC semifinals will be held Saturday.
