ASTON, Penn. (Nov. 15, 2017) – One year ago, an undefeated and nationally-ranked Neumann University men's basketball team visited Rutgers-Camden and left with a one-point loss.
Things were different here Wednesday night as the two teams opened their season at Neumann University.
The Knights placed five players in double figures and held a 50-36 advantage off the boards as they raced past the Scarlet Raptors, 96-65, in a non-conference game.
Neumann never trailed in the game as it scored the first four points and opened up its first double-digit lead at 17-6. By halftime, the Knights opened up a 53-28 lead and they led by as many as 35 points (89-54) late in the game.
Sophomore guard
Raquan Brown-Johnson (Philadelphia, PA/Martin Luther King) paced Neumann with 17 points, aided by 7-for-8 shooting from the foul line. Senior guard
Tyaire Hudson (Wilmington, DE/Hodgson Vocational Tech) added 15 points, a game-high six assists and a team-high eight rebounds.
Junior guard
Jordan Collins (Springfield, PA/Springfield) and senior guard
Billy Cassidy (Primos, PA/Friends Central) both notched 13 points for the Knights. Freshman forward
Aaron Johnson-Chavis (Philadelphia, PA/Kestrel Heights) added 12 points and a game-high three blocked shots.
Rutgers-Camden received a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds from junior forward
Isaac Destin (Woodlynne, NJ/Collingswood), pictured above. It was the seventh double-double of his career.
Junior guard
Anthony Harris (Philadelphia, PA/Philadelphia E&T) collected 15 points for the Scarlet Raptors, while junior guard
Juan Perez-Jones (Trenton, NJ/Pennsbury) added 12. Perez-Jones nearly had a double-double, finishing with nine rebounds.
Neumann shot 31-for-62 (50 percent) from the floor, while Rutgers-Camden shot 19-for-64 (29.7).
The Scarlet Raptors play at Muhlenberg College's Scotty Wood Tournament Friday and Saturday, beginning with a 3 p.m. game Friday against Misericordia University.
Rutgers-Camden will open its home season, and its New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule, on Tuesday night when it hosts The College of New Jersey at 8 p.m.
