CENTER VALLEY, Penn. (April 11, 2017) – The DeSales University baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to overcome a two-run deficit and held on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 5-4, in a non-conference game here Tuesday afternoon.

After Rutgers-Camden tacked on a run in the top of the eighth on a RBI double by senior leftfielder Doug Carter Jr. (Union, NJ/Union) to take a 4-2 lead. One out later, freshman third baseman Matthew Stoots (Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton) unloaded his first collegiate home run, a two-run shot to left field.

DeSales tied the game in the bottom of the frame with two unearned runs off Raptor freshman starter Jaylen Paula (Jersey City, NJ/County Prep), but Rutgers-Camden regained the lead in the second inning. Freshman designated hitter Matt Yanick (Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra) unloaded a leadoff homer to left center, his second collegiate home run.

Sophomore Steven Bloyed (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) worked 2.2 innings, allowing four hits, one walk and three earned runs, taking the loss. Bloyed (3-2) struck out one.

Junior Konner Schneider (Bedminster, NJ/Bernards), the third of four DeSales pitchers, picked up the win for his first decision of the year despite allowing the Raptor run in the top of the eighth inning. Senior Tyler Cooperman (Allentown, PA/Salisbury) collected his third save with a scoreless ninth, despite allowing a leadoff single to Yanick.

Jones, Stoots and Yanick all collected two hits for the Scarlet Raptors, whose only other hit was the double by Carter.

DeSales' 12-hit attack was led by three hits apiece from junior leftfielder Hunter Hart (Reading, PA/Exeter) and senior catcher Mike Kacergis (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge).
