Raptors will play in Neumann tourney consolation game

ASTON, Penn. (Nov. 17, 2018) – Two games went down to the wire here Saturday on the first day of the Neumann University Tip-Off Tournament, and when all the action was over, the host school and a New England college advanced to the title game on Sunday.
 
Host Neumann edged Hood College, 80-75, in overtime before Western New England College outlasted Rutgers University-Camden, 80-74. In Sunday's action, Rutgers-Camden will face Hood in the consolation game at 12 p.m., followed by the title game between Western New England and Neumann at 2 p.m.
 
In a tight game, the Scarlet Raptors took their last lead, 65-62, with 7:28 remaining in the fourth quarter on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Shane Holmes. The Golden Bears answered with a trey of their own by junior Meghan Orbann, tying the game with 6:33 remaining. A layup by Orbann, with 5:46 left in the game gave Western New England the lead for good, 67-65, and the Golden Bears opened up a seven-point lead (72-65) before the Scarlet Raptors rallied back.
 
A trey and a layup by freshman guard/forward Tamara Johnson cut the margin to 74-70. With 2:36 remaining, Holmes hit a jumper to make it a two-point game, 74-72, but the Springfield, Massachusetts school locked away the game with six foul shots down the stretch to make it an 80-72 game. Freshman guard Wykira Johnson-Kelly made a layup at the buzzer for the final margin.
 
Junior guard Emily Farrell paced the Golden Bears with a game-high 21 points, including 9-for-13 from the foul line. She added five assists.
 
Junior guard/forward Alyssa Stefanelli scored 14 points for WNEU, while sophomore center Emily Scurka collected 10 points and nine rebounds.
 
Rutgers-Camden received 18 points from junior guard Fatimah Williams, while senior guard Gabby Greene scored 15 points to move her to 992 for her stellar career. Greene, who will become the 13th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point club, also had four assists, three rebounds and two steals.
 
Johnson-Kelly finished with 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Johnson netted 11 points and five boards. Holmes collected nine points and sophomore guard Jordan Harbaugh collected seven rebounds, five points and two steals.
