CAMDEN, N.J. (Dec. 10, 2018) – The Gwynedd Mercy University men's basketball team went on a 21-point run early in the first half to take a 20-point lead and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 76-51, in a non-conference game here Monday night.
The loss drops the Scarlet Raptors to 1-9, while the Griffins posted their third straight win to raise their record to 6-3.
The game was the last home contest for the Scarlet Raptors during the 2018 calendar year. They close out the year with three road games, starting with a 7:30 p.m. New Jersey Athletic Conference contest at Ramapo College Wednesday. Rutgers-Camden's next home game will be Jan. 9 when the Raptors host Montclair State University in a NJAC contest.
The teams swapped leads four times early in the opening half, with the Raptors taking their final lead, 6-5, on a jumper by senior guard
Trai Greer only 1:39 into the game. Moments later, the Griffins took the lead for good, 8-6, on a three-pointer by junior guard Jeff Seigafuse, kicking off a 21-point run that put Gwynedd Mercy ahead, 26-6. Rutgers-Camden didn't end the run until Greer hit another jumper at 11:04, making it a 26-8 game.
Gwynedd Mercy led by 20 points, 34-14, at halftime and had leads as big as 26 points (65-39) in the second half. The closest the Scarlet Raptors came in the second half was 14 points, 49-35, following a trey by sophomore guard
Tyrell Russell with 9:39 remaining.
Junior guard Rich Dunham scored a game-high 22 points and added a game-high five steals for the Griffins. He also tied Raptor sophomore guard
Ian McCarthy for game-high honors with eight rebounds.
Senior guard Courtney Cubbage added 16 points and seven boards for the Griffins, while Seigafuse notched 10 points. Senior guard Clayton Wolfe dished off a game-high seven assists and added seven boards for Gwynedd-Mercy, which held a 46-35 advantage off the glass.

Terrance Harris netted a career-high 15 points for the Scarlet Raptors, passing his previous high of 12 against The College of New Jersey on Jan. 17, 2018. Senior forward
Chin Akwarandu, pictured above, also set his career high with 13 points, including 5-for-8 shooting from the foul line. His previous high was 10 points against Haverford in the season opener on Nov. 10.
Greer led the Scarlet Raptors with four assists.
Rutgers-Camden shot 19-for-57 (33.3 percent) from the floor, including 4-for-18 (22.2) from three-point range. Gwynedd Mercy shot 28-for-61 (45.9) from the floor, including 8-for-25 (32.0) from long distance.
