Rowan's long-range shooting topples Rutgers-Camden men

GLASSBORO, N.J. (Jan. 16, 2019) – The Rowan University men's basketball team used 10 three-pointers and a 10-point run to take a 13-point halftime lead and the Profs went on to hit a program-record 24 treys to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 105-76, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Wednesday night.
 
Rowan improves to 13-4 overall and 7-3 in the NJAC, while Rutgers-Camden falls to 2-15 and 2-8. The Profs hold a 96-32 lead in the all-time series and have won the last seven meetings between the teams.
 
The teams swapped leads six times in the early going, with the last lead change giving the Profs a 16-15 advantage. Leading moments later by a 19-18 score, Rowan went on a 10-point run to open up its first double-digit lead of the night. By halftime, the Profs held a 49-36 advantage and were shooting 10-for-25 (40.0 percent) from three-point range, including three treys by senior guard Rob DePersia.
 
Rowan went on to shoot 24-for-55 (48.6) from three-point range on the evening, with Rob DePersia making five treys, while senior guard Nick DePersia and junior forward Brian Thatcher both added four.
 
The game marked the first time the Raptors allowed over 100 points since a marathon 104-101 overtime loss at home against Rowan on Jan. 24, 2018. It was the most points the Raptors allowed since a 105-85 loss at Rowan on Jan. 25, 2017.
 
Rowan placed six players in double digits, led by Rob DePersia's 17 points. Senior guard DaRon Curry netted 14, while Nick DePersia, Thatcher and junior forward Austin Kearney each scored 12. Sophomore guard Matt Green added 10 points.
 
Rowan held a 46-30 advantage off the boards, with senior guard/forward Ramon Wright hauling down a game-high 10 rebounds. Wright also added a game-high seven assists.
 
Rutgers-Camden received 16 points from sophomore guard Kyle Goodson Jr. It was a career high for Goodson, pictured above, breaking his total of 15 set against Montclair State on Jan. 9.
 
Sophomore guards Terrance Harris and Ian McCarthy notched 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the Scarlet Raptors. Harris also added two steals, tying senior guard Trai Greer and a trio of Rowan players for game-high honors. Greer had a team-high seven boards for the Scarlet Raptors.
 
Overall, Rowan hit 36 of 74 shots from the floor (48.6), with two-thirds of the Profs' field goals coming from long range. Rutgers-Camden shot 30-for-68 (44.1) from the floor, including 8-for-21 (38.1) from three-point range.
 
Rutgers-Camden returns to NJAC action Saturday with a 3 p.m. game at William Paterson University.
