STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Jan. 18, 2019) – The Rutgers University-Camden men's indoor track teams returned to action after a six-week semester break and posted four ECAC qualifiers as it competed in the NYC Gotham Cup here Friday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
The Scarlet Raptors received two ECAC qualifiers from senior
Cameron Dobbins. Dobbins earned another ECAC qualifier in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7:03. He finished 14th out of 82 competitors and has run an ECAC qualifier in the event at all three of Rutgers-Camden's indoor meets this season.
Dobbins also earned an ECAC qualifier in the 77-man field of the 200-meter dash. He finished sixth in a time of 22.13 in his first time running the event this season. Dobbins is the Rutgers-Camden record holder in both the 60-meter dash (6.92) and the 200-meter dash (21.80).
Freshman
Desmond Howell set a PR (23.06) in the 200-meter dash while finishing 33rd. Howell also was one of four Raptors to set a PR in the 111-man field of the 400-meter dash, finishing 18th overall with an ECAC-qualifying time of 51.24. Freshmen
Justin McMillian (56.28) and
Brian Fisher (59.18) also set a PR in the event while finishing 98th and 104th, respectively. Fisher also finished 37th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.47), while McMillian was 38th (9.51).
The other Raptor to PR at 400 meters was senior
Tom Meyer, pictured above, who finished 93rd of 111 in the event with a 55.92 clocking. Meyer also had a PR with an 8.78 time in his top event, the 60-meter hurdles, to finish 19th of 44 and earn an ECAC qualifier.
In the 70-man field of the mile run, the Scarlet Raptors saw sophomore
Sean Ward finish 65th (5:22.39), while freshmen
AJ Shaw and
Luis Cornejo finished 66th and 67th, respectively. Shaw set a PR in the event (5:26.63), while Cornejo posted a 5:28.22 clocking.
Senior
Elijah Crouch placed 51st in the 67-man field of the 800-meter run, posting a time of 2:09.04
In the throwing events, the talented trio of junior
Jude Misko and seniors
Drew Harper and
Andrew Kustera turned in another fine performance in both the shot put and the weight throw. In the 75-man field in the shot put, Kustera finished 10th (13.99 M), Harper was 13th with a PR of 13.74 meters and Misko was 21st (12.76 M). In the 61-man weight throw competition, Misko finished 11th (14.93), Harper was 20th (14.01) and Kustera placed 32nd (12.24 M).
The Rutgers-Camden women's team was supposed to run Saturday at the Collegeville Classic, but opted not to attend after a state of emergency was declared in Pennsylvania due to the weather forecast. The full Scarlet Raptor track teams return to action on Jan. 26, when they compete in the Covert Classic, which will be hosted by Moravian College and held at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Penn.
