NEWARK, N.J. (November 10, 2019) – The Rutgers University-Camden cross country teams took a break from their post-season competition to compete in the Nick Russo Halloween Collegiate Classic Cross Country Meet here Sunday at Branch Brook Park.
The combined 5K race, a fun run hosted by the New Jersey Institute of Technology, featured 14 female runners and 29 male runners. No team scores were kept.
Sophomore
Kirstin Slater paced the five-member Rutgers-Camden women's team, finishing third out of the 14 women overall, in a time of 20:32.83. Junior
Kaci Draves finished sixth overall (22:48.05) and sophomore
Jordyn Kustera was 10th (28:12.49).
A pair of women who will compete for the Raptors during the indoor track season rounded out the Scarlet Raptors' team by running their first race of the cross country season.
Kayana Clue, who has freshman eligibility in cross country and will be a sophomore in track, finished 13th overall (35:46.61).
Nicole DeMarco, who has junior eligibility in cross country and will be a senior in track, placed 14th (36:09.34).
The Scarlet Raptor men brought four runners to the event, with freshman
David Morrow finishing fourth overall (17:13.11).
AJ Shaw, who will be a sophomore with the track program but has freshman eligibility in cross country, finished eighth overall (18:55.70), while freshman
Miguel Gisone finished 12th among the men in a time of 19:57.98.
Vinny Maine, who has sophomore eligibility in cross country and will be a junior when he competes with the indoor and outdoor track teams, finished 20th (21:36.74).
The Scarlet Raptors return to post-season competition Saturday when they run at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Region Championships in Canton, New York. The men's 8K race begins at 11 a.m. and the women's 6K race is slated for 12 p.m.
