STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Feb. 18, 2019) – The Rutgers University-Camden men's indoor track team scored its most points ever at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, produced two NJAC champions, three second-place finishers, set one school record and notched seven ECAC qualifiers as the Scarlet Raptors competed here Monday night at the NJAC meet.

The Raptor men finished sixth out of 10 teams, but posted 72 points to break their previous program high of 61 points at the NJAC indoor meet, set in 2014.

The Raptor women, meanwhile, finished eighth of nine teams with 8.5 points, but also added one second-place finish and an ECAC qualifier.

The Rowan University men's team won its fifth straight NJAC title with 166 points, while The College of New Jersey captured its second straight women's conference title with 246 points. It was the Lions' 16th title out of the 22 NJAC crowns in conference history.

A pair of Rutgers-Camden seniors captured NJAC titles for the men, with Cameron Dobbins taking the crown in the 60-meter dash and Andrew Kustera becoming a conference champion in the shot put. Dobbins finished third of 25 in the 60-meter preliminaries (6.97) before winning the eight-man final in a time of 6.93.

Kustera, meanwhile, had a shot put of 15.34 meters to win the 40-man competition, leading an outstanding field which saw four Scarlet Raptors place in the top 19. Senior Drew Harper earned second place (14.15 meters), while sophomore Jude Misko was seventh (13.06 meters) and freshman Will Gross finished 19th (10.55 meters).

Dobbins and Kustera collected ECAC qualifiers in those events. Dobbins, pictured above, notched another ECAC qualifier while finishing second in the 27-man field of the 200-meter dash, setting a program record of 21.67 in the process. He broke his own mark of 21.80, set at last season's NJAC Championships (Feb. 19, 2018).

The Raptors also placed three athletes in the top nine out of the 30 competitors in the weight throw. Harper earned his second NJAC runner-up spot with a throw of 14.4 meters. Misko finished sixth (14.05 meters) and Kustera placed ninth (13.18 meters).

Two more ECAC qualifiers came from freshman Desmond Howell and senior Elijah Crouch, who finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 18-man field of the 500-meter run. Howell posted a 1:08.84 clocking, while Crouch had a 1:08.99 time.

Senior Tom Meyer had a pair of ECAC qualifiers in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing sixth of 19 in the preliminaries (8.77) and seventh of eight in the finals (8.82).

The men's 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams also notched ECAC qualifiers, with the 4x400 squad finishing second of 10 teams in a time of 3:28.73. Members of that team included sophomore Jahaad Beckford, Crouch, sophomore Vinny Maine and Howell. The 4x200 squad finished fifth of nine teams (1:32.69), led by Meyer, Beckford, Howell and Crouch.

Senior Alexis Jones accounted for eight of the 8.5 points the Raptor women compiled, finishing second of 14 at 5,000 meters with an ECAC qualifier of 18:35.24. She also was 10th of 17 in the mile run (5:34.69).

Junior Jordan Erskine tied for eighth place out of 11 in the high jump (1.41 meters/4-7.5) to earn the Raptors .5 points. Junior Nicole DeMarco added a ninth-place finish out of 33 athletes in the shot put, recording a put of 10.66 meters (34-11.75).

The Scarlet Raptors will send several members to the ECAC Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships Friday and Saturday at the New York Armory.
