CAMDEN, N.J. (Feb. 4, 2019) – Rutgers University-Camden senior sprinter
Cameron Dobbins had another outstanding meet at the Frank Colden Invitational at Ursinus College Saturday.
As a result, Dobbins captured his second straight honor today as the New Jersey Athletic Conference/s Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week. Dobbins, who also has won back-to-back honors as Rutgers-Camden's Raptor of the Week, earned his first NJAC weekly honor of the season on Jan. 28.
Dobbins raised his lofty level of performance again on Saturday, finishing first in all four races in which he competed. He started the day placing first of 52 runners in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash (6.97), qualifying for the finals in which he finished first of 11 runners (6.94). He also finished first of 53 runners in the 200-meter dash (22.00) and anchored the Rutgers-Camden men's 4x200 team, which finished first of nine clubs in a time of 1:33.91.
All four of those times were ECAC qualifiers for Dobbins. He has run the 60-meter dash in all five of his meets this season, earning ECAC qualifiers each time. In his three meets running the 200-meter dash, he has earned three ECAC qualifiers. His participation in the 4x200 relay on Saturday marked his first time running that event this winter, giving him another ECAC qualifier.
Dobbins' first NJAC Track Athlete of the Week honor this season came after he finished first in both the 60-meter dash (out of 44 athletes) and first in the 200-meter dash (out of 42) at the Moravian College Indoor Invitational.
Dobbins has been named Rutgers-Camden's Male Athlete of the Year during both his sophomore and junior years, and shows no sign of surrendering the award as a senior. A three-time team MVP, he holds five indoor program records (three individual and two on relays) and three outdoor marks (two individual, one relay) for the Scarlet Raptors' track programs.
Dobbins now has earned four honors as the NJAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week and one from the ECAC over his career. He also has earned one weekly Track Athlete of the Week apiece from the NJAC and ECAC during outdoor season. In addition, he captured a total of eight NJAC Rookie of the Week honors (four apiece during indoor and outdoor season) as a freshman during the 2015-16 scholastic year and also added two ECAC weekly rookie honors during both indoor and outdoor season.
Dobbins has earned four NJAC First Team and two NJAC Second Team honors during indoor track season, while also being named the NJAC Men's Indoor Outstanding Track Athlete at the 2018 conference championship meet. During outdoor season he has earned a trio of NJAC Second Team honors and one NJAC Honorable Mention.
In addition to earning another NJAC weekly honor, Dobbins captured his 16th career honor on Monday as Rutgers-Camden's Raptor of the Week.
