READING, Penn. (Feb. 9, 2019) – Senior
Andrew Kustera earned his fourth ECAC qualifier of the season while winning the shot put and seniors
Cameron Dobbins and
Alexis Jones won their events in the 55-meter dash and the mile run, respectively, as the Rutgers University-Camden indoor track teams competed at the Albright College Invitational here Saturday.
The Scarlet Raptor men finished with 42 points to place third of 15 scoring teams, while the women notched 17 points and finished sixth of 12 scoring teams.
Both Kustera and Dobbins set program records in their events.
Kustera had a shot put of 15.64 meters (51-3.75) to finish first of 25 athletes, accounting for 10 points and notching another ECAC qualifier in the event. He also finished second of 17 in the weight throw with a 14.41-meter distance (47-3.5), giving the Raptors eight more points.
Kustera's shot put broke his own program mark of 15.20 meters set at the Moravian College meet on Jan. 26.
Dobbins, meanwhile set a program record in the 55-meter dash with a clocking of 6.56 in finishing first of 17 athletes in the preliminaries. He posted a 6.57 time while winning the eight-man finals. The 55-meter dash isn't run in the ECAC meet, although Dobbins already has qualified multiple times for that meet in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes, as well as with the 4x200 relay team.
The Raptors' old program record of 6.73 was shared by Tyrie Webb (Jan. 26, 2013 at the LVC Indoor Invitational) and Rob O'Brien (Feb. 14, 2015 at the Albright College Invitational).
Jones, meanwhile, finished first of eight in the women's mile run, posting a time of 5:38.04. She has won the mile run in both meets where she ran the event this season. She also has earned a pair of ECAC qualifiers this winter, coming at both 1,000 and 5,000 meters.
While Jones accounted for 10 of the 17 points for the Raptor women, junior
Nicole DeMarco and freshman
Jordyn Kustera combined for the other seven. DeMarco finished fifth of 28 in the shot put (10.40 meters/34-1.5). Kustera placed sixth in the mile (6:59.09).
The Rutgers-Camden men saw strong performances in the mile from senior
Elijah Crouch and freshman
Luis Cornejo. Crouch finished second in the 11-man race (5:04.46), while Cornejo was sixth (5:43.16) as they combined for 11 points.
Freshman
Will Gross placed 11th of 25 in the shot put (11.00 M/36-1.25) and 12th of 17 in the weight throw (10.54 M/34-7).
Freshman
Arian Redzepi, pictured above, finished sixth of 13 in the 200-meter dash (27.13) and also was 13th of 17 in the 55-meter dash preliminaries (7.64).
The Scarlet Raptors return to action on Monday, Feb. 18, when they travel to Staten Island, New York, for the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
