Terrance Harris hit a three-pointer 5:39 into the game here Saturday afternoon, he gave the Rutgers University-Camden men's basketball team an early 13-9 lead.
The next time the Scarlet Raptors scored, nearly seven minutes later, junior guard
Trai Greer's layup broke a 19-point run by powerful New Jersey City University. That run powered the Gothic Knights from their 13-9 deficit into a 28-13 lead on the way to a 93-73 victory in New Jersey Athletic Conference action.
NJCU, which received 13 votes toward the
D3hoops.com Top 25 poll this week, has won six straight games to improve to 19-5 overall and a conference-leading 14-3 in the NJAC. Rutgers-Camden fell to 2-22 overall and 2-15 in the NJAC with its 10th straight defeat.
NJCU has won its last eight games against Rutgers-Camden and leads the all-time series, 65-5.
Trailing, 13-12, the Gothic Knights received a steal and a layup from senior guard Shaquan Worthy, giving NJCU the lead for good, 14-13. Junior forward Sam Toney led the 19-point run with eight points, including a pair of treys. Senior guard James Richardson added seven points in that stretch.
By halftime, NJCU held a 49-25 lead, was shooting 17-for-34 (50 percent) from the floor and held a 25-13 advantage off the boards. Rutgers-Camden shot 10-for-30 (33.3) in the opening half from the floor.
Senior guard Lavrone Greene scored 11 first-half points to lead nine NJCU players in the scoring column.
Terrance Harris had 12 first-half points for Rutgers-Camden.
The Gothic Knights led by as many as 28 points in the second half (73-45) and ended up placing 12 players in the scoring column. Sophomore guard Denzel Banks scored a team-high 16 points, while Greene, Richardson and senior forward Yuri Brutus each added 11 points. Toney finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. Brutus added six boards and Richardson dished off six assists.
NJCU shot 36-for-69 (52.2) from the floor and held a 37-26 advantage off the glass.
Rutgers-Camden shot 25-for-53 (46.3) from the floor with an offense led by Greer, who scored a game-high 23 points and added four assists and three steals. Sophomore guard

Rutgers-Camden closes its season Wednesday with an 8 p.m. NJAC contest at Montclair State University.
