Jones won her event by 20 seconds as she posted a time of 18:36.49 to finish first of four athletes competing at 5,000 meters. The ECAC title adds to a strong season-ending finish for Jones, who also was named to the New Jersey Athletic Conference Second Team for her second-place finish at 5,000 meters in the NJAC Championships Feb. 18.
Senior
Andrew Kustera, meanwhile, placed second of four in the shot put (15.51 meters) at the ECAC meet after winning the NJAC title in that event.
Two other Scarlet Raptor seniors moved into Saturday's finals of their events by qualifying in Friday's preliminaries.
Cameron Dobbins finished third of 14 in the 60-meter dash preliminaries (6.98), while
Tom Meyer qualified in the 60-meter hurdles by placing fifth of nine. He tied his PR time of 8.77 in the event, which he set Feb. 18 at the NJAC Championships.
Meyer also teamed with sophomore
Jahaad Beckford, freshman
Desmond Howell and senior
Elijah Crouch to place fifth of 11 in the men's 4x200. The quartet posted a time of 1:33.84.
Meyer and Dobbins will compete in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles and 60-meter dash, respectively, on Saturday morning. In the noon hour on Saturday, both Crouch and Howell will run in the 500-meter dash, while Jones will compete at 1,000 meters at 1:10 p.m.
At 1:30 p.m. Saturday, senior
Drew Harper and junior
Jude Misko will compete in the weight throw, while Dobbins returns at 1:55 p.m. for the 200-meter dash competition.
The Scarlet Raptors will conclude their ECAC competition Saturday afternoon at 3:05 p.m. when the 4x400 men's team will run. That team includes Beckford, Crouch sophomore
Vinny Maine and Howell.
