NEW YORK, N.Y. (March 2, 2019) – Senior
Alexis Jones broke her own program record in the 1,000-meter run, notching one of three personal records set Saturday by Rutgers University-Camden athletes, as the Scarlet Raptors completed their trip to the ECAC Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The two-day event was held at the New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory in New York City.
Jones, the only woman competing for Rutgers-Camden, rolled up 15 points in her two events, allowing the Scarlet Raptors to place 12th out of 25 scoring teams at the ECAC Championships. The Rutgers-Camden men, meanwhile, finished sixth of 26 scoring teams with 43 points.
Jones posted a time of 3:08.74 as she finished fourth of eight in the 1,000-meter run. She broke her own mark of 3:14.56, set Dec. 7, 2018 at the Wagner Seahawk Shootout. Her accomplishment came one day after she won the ECAC championship in the 5,000-meter run.
Seniors
Cameron Dobbins and
Tom Meyer, meanwhile, completed their two-day performances at the ECAC in their events after qualifying for the finals in the 60-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles, respectively, on Friday. Dobbins placed second of eight in the 60-meter dash in a time of 6.93, barely missing both his PR (6.92) and the first-place time (6.91). Meyer placed fourth of seven in the 60-meter hurdles with a PR of 8.72. He broke his previous top time of 8.77, accomplished twice, including Friday in the preliminaries.
In the men's 500-meter competition, freshman
Desmond Howell finished third of 12 athletes with a PR of 1:07.27, while senior
Elijah Crouch placed 12th at 1:11.98.
The men's weight throw also had a pair of Scarlet Raptors competing in the seven-man field. Junior
Jude Misko finished third (15.55 M) and senior
Drew Harper placed seventh (13.82 M).
Rutgers-Camden also finished fifth of 11 in the men's 4x400, posting a time of 3:29.08. Members of the team included sophomore
Jahaad Beckford, Crouch, sophomore
Vinny Maine and Howell.
